Achieving the no- makeup makeup look

The no-makeup makeup look is now almost everyone’s favorite kind of look because it can be worn everyday and one can look glowy and gorgeous without seeming caked up. I’m going to be sharing my tips for achieving this look and my favorite products too.

Moisturizer
Whether you have dry or oily skin, it is essential to begin with this step because it hydrates your skin in order to allow the rest of the products to sit comfortably without caking up or creasing. I have a number of favorites from various price ranges.

On the same note of moisturizer, I cannot stress enough on the importance of a lip balm to ensure that your lips are plumped, hydrated, supple and all ready for your lip products. Linked below are some products that I’m loving.

It’s important that your makeup lasts for as long as you need it to without getting oily or creasing into your fine lines/wrinkles. You also don’t want your makeup to settle into your pores because that can make your look seem cakey too. And this is where primer comes- it evens out your skin tone and creates a smooth base for you to begin with. You may check out the ones that have been my favorites for some time now.

LUNA - Pro Primer - 15g - Velvet Pore

GLAMGLOW Supermattify 6-Acid Clarifying Primer

I love to thoroughly prepare my skin because this is key towards ensuring that my skin is looking dewy and smooth underneath the makeup. I cannot stress enough the importance of hydration, brightening and smoothening the skin before starting off with the rest of the routine. If you have been ignoring these steps, do try it now and you will not be sorry. I also do have to point out that I haven’t mentioned sunscreen and eye cream. These products may or may not be essential to you but do comment down below if you would like to know a list of my favorites.

Eyeshadow
This step can totally be skipped if you want to. I learnt from my favorite YouTuber Kaushal that you simply can avoid applying any product on the eyelid and once you are done with the makeup look, your natural pigment will appear like eyeshadow. I usually use this technique and I think it’s amazing.
If however, you would like to add some soft shimmer to add to that angelic glow or sharpen your crease a tad bit, a palette with a few neutral colors will be sufficient. I will link below some of my favorites when I’m doing a natural makeup look but any palette that you have will do the job just as well.

Peach C - Soft Mood Eyeshadow Palette - 18g - Soft Coral

Tip: Use a fluffy brush to softly apply a neutral color (e.g. neutral brown) on your lower lash line as this makes your eyes look much softer.

There are days when I legit have no time for brushes and eyeshadows and that’s when I like to reach out to my liquid/cream eyeshadows. I have listed a few below which I swear by. They blend beautifully without the use of any brushes
and stay on my eyelids all day long.

I usually totally avoid using eyeliner except for some kohl on my lower lash line.  If however you would like to accentuate your lash line a little more, you are free to do so but we are trying to achieve the no makeup makeup look, so little to nothing will be just fine. I also use a very light coat of mascara because I do find it essential to lift my lashes without making it seem too dark and glamorous. Please don’t feel tempted to completely omit these products because applying these products in moderation will help towards opening your eyes and making you look fresher. Again, you may totally use whatever you already have but I’ll link some of my favorites below.

Tip: Apply your eyeliner/Kohl only halfway through your lower lash line as this softens your eye whilst opening it. Also, keep your mascara to be applied at the end so that you won’t have to retouch after other products such as eyeshadow, powder or foundation hit your lashes. At this point you may also want to add some color to your brows. You may use your eyeshadow palette or opt for a brow product. I will not be sharing any today but let me know if you would like to know some of my favorites.

Foundation & concealer
It totally depends on your skin’s condition on whether you apply both or just concealer for minor problem areas. I have acne scars on my skin but I occasionally resort to using only concealer. On days when I’m looking for my makeup to last all day long, I tend to use a light layer of foundation too. I’m going to share some products that I use for an everyday natural and illuminated look but you can use what you have found is best for your skin.

Tip: if the foundation that you already have is full coverage and matte (and something you don’t think looks too natural) you may simply make up a concoction by mixing it with your moisturizer or a favorite serum. Using a damp beauty blender also works wonders in blending the products seamlessly into your skin.

I like to keep this step as minimal because I’m only looking to add some color and not sculpt my face too much. I therefore avoid heavy contouring and resort to the latter. There are some products that I love and would highly recommend because of how creamy they are and how seamlessly they blend into my skin. I also prefer using a creamy highlighter because it then blends into my skin and appears like a glow from within (which is exactly what we are going for). If you are on the lookout for some new products, do try these out because they are beautiful on every skin tone.

Dermablend Glow Creator Multi-use Liquid Highlighter Makeup - Pearl

Tip: use a beauty blender every inch of the way to ensure that everything looks seamless without leaving any harsh lines.

Powder
This is a step that most people avoid and I think that’s fine. If you don’t get oily during the day or don’t have scars that may show through your liquid products, this is totally fine. I however do use some translucent powder on my problems areas (especially my T-zone). Because I want this to be suitable for everyone, I do have to admit that there were times my scarring has been so bad that a translucent powder wasn’t sufficient and I had to gently pat some compact powder. Here are my favorites:

A nude lip is the way to go to end this look and any nude that you think looks best on you would be absolutely perfect. Linked below are some of my favorite nudes in the formula that sit the best on my lips.
